
Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State has confirmed the passing of Chisom Nwankwo, a 500-level student of Agric/Economics at Obafemi Awolowo University. The accident occurred during a collision involving two motorcycles and two vehicles along Road 1 on Tuesday morning.
According to Abiodun Olanrewaju the Public Relations Officer of the university,
An okada rider attempted to overtake a red Toyota Corolla, resulting in a collision with the bike. The rider and passenger fell, and Chisom Nwankwo, who was being transported by another motorcyclist, was involved in a subsequent collision with a bus due to the distraction caused by the initial accident. Both Chisom and the okada rider sustained injuries and were initially taken to the university health center but later transferred to the OAU Teaching Hospital. Unfortunately, Chisom was later declared deceased.
The university has informed the authorities and taken necessary actions. The vice-chancellor and management express deep concern over the incident and emphasize the importance of road safety. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the deceased during this difficult time.
