The Organizers of the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 CAF has announced that there will be a rematch between Nigeria vs. Ivory Coast as the hosts entered a player who was ineligible.
According to CAF regulations concerning AFCON, “Any nation discovered to have fielded an ineligible player in the championship game faces match cancellation or expulsion.”
Recall that Ivory Coast defeated Nigeria 2–1 thanks to a goal by Haller, the CAF released a statement that says;
Ivory Coast fielded an illegible player, so we have already informed them that the match needs to be replayed. We believed that a repeat would be more appropriate than giving Nigeria the trophy. Later today, we will announce the final’s time and date.
