Rapper Lil Durk has been acquitted of all five federal charges against him in connection with a 2022 shooting in Los Angeles that left one person dead.
A jury returned the verdict after three days of deliberation, clearing the rapper of allegations that he orchestrated a plot to kill fellow rapper Quando Rondo.
Prosecutors had accused Lil Durk of hiring a group of gunmen to target Quando Rondo as retaliation for the 2020 killing of his close associate, rapper Dayvon “King Von” Bennett, outside a nightclub in Atlanta.
According to the prosecution’s case, the alleged gunmen opened fire 18 times at Quando Rondo’s black Cadillac Escalade outside the Beverly Center in Los Angeles. While Quando Rondo survived the attack, his cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, was struck by gunfire and killed.
Prosecutors argued that Lil Durk ordered the attack after an associate of Quando Rondo was allegedly involved in King Von’s death.
However, Lil Durk’s defence team strongly denied the allegations, arguing that his former assistant, Kavon Grant, was behind the shooting. His lawyers claimed Grant acted independently in an effort to impress the rapper and was not carrying out an order from Lil Durk.
Lil Durk was charged alongside two other defendants over the shooting. The rapper faced five counts, including conspiracy, stalking involving a dangerous weapon, stalking resulting in death, and two murder-for-hire charges.
After considering the evidence, the jury found Lil Durk not guilty on all five counts, rejecting the prosecution’s argument that he was criminally responsible for the alleged plot.
