Law Makers Plans To Stop Sports Betting In Nigeria

House of Representatives are planning to stop sports betting in Nigeria and the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) has been urged to comply with the Lottery Regulatory Commission Act, 2005.

This plan is coming after Rep. Kelechi Nwogu (PDP-Rivers) at plenary in Abuja on Thursday adopted the motion, recall that the The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that over  60 million Nigerians aged between18 and 40 engage in sports betting.

Rep Kelechi stated that sports betting has led to so many negativity including  broken relationships due to lying or stealing from friends and family, financial problems, legal issues, and job loss due to excessive loss or debt, going further he said it has increased the rate of suicide.
