Former Accountant General Of Federation Sentenced To 72years Imprisonment Without Option Of Fine

Chukwunyere Nwabuoku, former acting Accountant-General of the Federation (AGoF), to a 72-year jail term without an option of fine, he was convicted and sentenced by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, March 23.

In a report made by Daily Trust, Justice Omotosho found Nwabuoku guilty on all nine counts and sentenced him to eight years imprisonment on each count, totaling 72 years. However, the court ruled that the sentences would run concurrently.

The judge described Nwabuoku’s actions—diverting funds meant for security and defence during his tenure as Director of Finance and Accounts in the Ministry of Defence—as “appalling,” while also commending the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its thorough prosecution.

Justice Omotosho further noted that the testimony of the ninth prosecution witness, which revealed that Nwabuoku voluntarily refunded part of the over ₦200 million misappropriated during the investigation, was not challenged by the defence.
