I was about 15, and I had just heard Travie McCoy and Bruno Mars Billionaire song. Like many people, I loved the song immediately I heard it, even though I didn’t really know what it took to become a billionaire. Subsequently, I learned the lyrics to the song, and slowly, I started asking questions. Who’s Oprah, and why does my favourite musician want to be like her? It took some time, but I got those answers, and it led me to do more research which is the first requirement for being a billionaire. You have to ALWAYS BE CURIOUS.
CURIOSITY: Being curious is the foundation for any worthwhile achievement. You want to be an astounding astronaut, then you have to be curious about astronomy. If you’re going to be a top-rated surgeon, then you have to learn things other surgeons don’t know. I am a marketing strategist and every day, I try to learn something new. What are you into? Are you curious about your path? I think you are. In fact, opening this article alone shows that you are one step there and soon, you could be the latest billionaire in town.
DELIBERATE DESIRE: I have a friend who is more curious than most people I know, but he said one thing that shocked me last year. We were chatting about life and the things we’d like to accomplish and somehow, he said he doesn’t want wealth. I know, surprising. I mean, who doesn’t want to be rich enough to be on the cover of Forbes? He said he wanted to be comfortable, not wealthy, and that is the second thing I want to say. You need a deliberate desire to be a billionaire if you’re going to be one. Of course, there are accidental billionaires, but how common are they?
HAVE A BILLION-DOLLAR IDEA: Ideas are the source of everything. Look around you, everything you see was once an idea. If you are going to amass a billion dollars in wealth, then you need to have a strategy, approach, plan or blueprint on how you hope to do it. Winging it can’t get you a billion dollars.
GRIT: It’s tough. Doing anything is tough, and so, there will be times when you will want to quit. There will be times when you will have to choose between wealth and peace of mind. If it were easy, everyone would do it, and that is why the strength of character is essential for billionaires. Perseverance is vital for all billionaires.
WORK ETHIC: Nobody works harder than a person who doesn’t like taking things from other people. I’m not sure where I heard that or why it matters. Now, I’m not saying you have to work 22 hours a day. That would be crazy, especially in this age where things are automated, and it is relatively more comfortable to get information. The work ethic here means that you should work smart when you can and work hard when you should.
